If you are replacing a door for a fire door in your property or as we say in your Kingdom, First rule is to check the frames you have to see if the fire door will fit
Fire doors are 44mm thick and standard doors are 35mm thick you may need to change the frames for fire rated frames if this is the case.
measure the rebate in the frame were the door sits when shut
most standard door widths are 35mm or 40mm but take note that fire doors are 44mm (FD30) and 54mm (FD60) you may need to change the frame for a fire door frame.
Seals
Fire doors use intumescent strips and these have to be taken into account when measuring, you cant have more than a 3mm gap around a fire door when it has been fitted this is about the width of a £1 coin. Make sure you take off 3mm each side and the top for your door size and you can have no more than a 10mm gap on the bottom of a fire door.
Handing
When you are measuring the door keep in mind how the door opens, stand in front of the door so that it opens away from you and look which side the hinges are left or right of the door, Left side hinges means door is left hand opening away, where as right side hinges is right hand opening away.
Measuring the door
Take three measurement's inside the door frame at the top middle and bottom
the largest of the three is your door width.
Take two measurements on the inside of the vertical frame again for the door height, one either side remember to allow for any floor covering and measure the rebate in the frame were the door sits when shut
remember most standard door widths are 35mm or 40mm but take note that fire doors are 44mm and 54mm you may need to change the frame for a fire door frame.
standard door heights are normally 6’6”/1981mm but some may also be 2040mm
standard door widths can be 24 inches/610 mm, 27 inches/686 mm, 30 inches/762 mm, 33 inches/838 mm.
